Freestyle writing courses
Writing courses you can do in your own time, at your own pace, when you want that topic, with all the support you'd get with a live course.
The courses are an immersive mix of videos and PDFs, packed with hands-on activities and process learning. The platform lets me check in with you to support you, if you want that.
They're 100% accessible: if you're visually impaired, hard of hearing, use a screenreader, or use dictation software, I've thought about you and made sure it works for you. They're also chunked into short sections, so you can settle in for an extended session or do them in small bits, as suits you.
The first freestyle course is The Essentials of Storytelling: Fiction • 60–80 mins • Use it in 1 sitting or in 5 chunks of 10–15 mins each. This began life as a taster session to encapsulate 12 years of teaching creative writing. I wanted something that would work for total newbies and also help my most experienced students.
I chose the core essentials which everyone needs for stories to work and which I return to most often in my own novels. I added some deeper info on narratives which none of my other courses or workshops cover, chose the practical creative techniques which are the most universally useful, and included my best tips for the process.

Freestyle Writing Skills
The Writing Skills are carefully targeted and fun activities designed to get your pen moving and hone specific aspects of your writing. At just £2 each, they give you super-affordable writing development and a regular, playful writing practice.
They’re in 6 categories – Plot, Character, Description, Genre, Style, and Poems – with the microskills for each Skill flagged up, so you can choose exactly what you want to work on. They take 10 minutes, so however busy you are, you can enjoy some writing time. (Many can extend beyond 10 minutes, but you can always do them in 10.)
For regular use, I recommend a dosage of one a week, but if you're coming back to writing or idea-hunting, a more intensive dose of one every weekday for 2–4 weeks will give you the boost you need.
